Background

Dr. Silva is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Utah. He moved to Utah from the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Before moving to academia, he was a Principal Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Labs, and a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. He has also held visiting positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory. Claudio has a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Federal University of Ceara (Brazil), and MS and PhD degrees in computer science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Research Interests

His main research interests are in graphics, visualization, applied computational geometry, and high-performance computing. His current research focuses on architectures and algorithms for building scalable displays, rendering techniques for large datasets, 3D photography, and the efficient implementation of geometric algorithms on graphics hardware.
