20100521 Mont Saint Michel
While in France for VISAPP 2010, I took a day to visit Mt. St. Michel, a
castle on the beach which is sometimes cut off from the mainland by the
tide. It was a great trip, including some interesting characters on the
trains and buses, and a little old couple who told me the whole story of
the castle, including showing me the grave of Patton's alleged mistress. The guy had actually spent 7 or 8 years there as a
teenager, and it was his first time back since then.

20100313 Porter Fork
Sam and I went up to Millcreek Canyon for the night. Sam skinned up on skis and I carried my board and snowshoed. It was actually not too cold (20ish) although it snowed probably half a foot. The next morning was gorgeous, we were the first people out there, did a quick run without our packs then skied/boarded back down to the jeep with backpacks on. Pretty interesting staying balanced with >=80lbs on your back!

20100130 Zion Subway
A few friends and I went down to Zion for the weekend and hiked up to the Subway, which is a slot canyon which has been rounded out by a lot of erosion. The hike was great and we saw a few deer and a lot of mountain lion tracks among other things. At the end are some pics from inside the park that I took on Sunday before Sara and I drove back to Salt Lake.

20091121 Uintas Snowshoeing
My parents came to town for my birthday weekend, the weekend before Thanksgiving, so I decided to freeze them to death and get the inheritance. It actually wasn't that cold up in the Uintas, but it was great because the Mirror Lake Byway was still open so we drove way in and found some good lakes to walk around. Overall a pretty cool day.

20090822 Rock Creek, Uintas
A few friends and I went out to the Rock Creek reservoir in the Uinta mountains for some camping and fishing. We caught some nice trout that we ate Saturday night. These pictures were taken while we were fishing around Arta Lake.

20090811 Falls of the Ohio
On day 2 of Sara and my visit back home to KY we stopped at the Falls of the Ohio. It's an exposed fossil bed on the Ohio side of the Ohio river. The 386-million-year-old fossil beds are among the largest, naturally exposed, Devonian fossil beds in the world.

On the second leg of our trip we went back to my parents' home in KY. We went to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge state parks on a hot and humid day with scattered showers all day long, just to let Sara know what KY heat is like in early August.

second day we walked around downtown, saw the Rocky statue and the
stairs he ran up and some other stuff around town including the Mütter
Museum of medical oddities.

20081122 Ibapah Peak
I went on a drive out to the west desert of Utah. I drove all around in the desert, crossing the old Pony Express trail before travelling to the Deep Creek mountain range and Ibapah Peak. On the trail up towards the peak I ran across a band of wild horses that looked to be in surprisingly decent shape.

|
20081115 Notch Peak
A few friends and I went out to Notch Peak, which is a small mountain in the west desert of Utah with a huge sheer dropoff cliff on one side. From the top there's a 2000 ft straight drop, then a small bench and another 1000 ft drop to the creek bed.
