Professor Dave Hanscom is the computer science professor for whom I am a teaching assistant this term. He is also the co-author of the backcountry skiing guide books for the entire Wasatch mountain range.  Dave's is an ultra-marathon runner and a long time cross-country ski racer.

There are no photos from our spectacular day of skiing at pre-season Alta for one simple reason. There was no time to take photos. Dave is an animal. We climbed to Sugarloaf pass, skied to the base of East Greeley, and then trekked up to the top of the trees in the span of 3 1/2 hours. Despite the fact that Dave was breaking trail in nearly a foot of fresh powder and his youngest child is older than me, I was unable to keep up with him.

Perhaps by mid-season I'll be able to ski with Dave and take photos...until then, imagine the white background as my interpretive canvas...
