Join The SCI Institute!

Join one of the most exciting and groundbreaking research environments. The Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute focuses on interdisciplinary research by harnessing the most advanced computer technology to solve the most challenging problems in science. The SCI Institute is truly a multidisciplinary environment, bringing together internationally recognized experts in cardiology, neuroscience, bioengineering, physics, mechanics, geology, mathematics, and computer science. We seek to create new scientific computing techniques, tools, and systems that enable solutions to problems affecting many aspects of human life.

SCI Institute research interests generally fall within four core tracks:

  1. Scientific Visualization research into new techniques for displaying large and complex data sets and the development of visual analysis tools to facilitate understanding of increasingly complex and rich scientific data.
  2. Numerical methods technical research into the computational and numerical methods required for modern scientific computing.
  3. Image processing and analysis research into methods and algorithms for extracting information from data sources such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, confocal and electron microscopy, and ultrasound.
  4. Problem solving environments research and development of comprehensive software systems aimed at solving a range of computation problems in all areas of science.

SCI Institute researchers also apply many of the above computational techniques within their own particular application domains, including fluid dynamics, atmospheric dynamics, biomechanics, cardiac and neural electrophysiology and bioelectric fields, inverse problems, and medical imaging.

The SCI Institute is located at the University of Utah, nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch mountains overlooking beautiful Salt Lake City. Our city is legendary for its wide range of sports activities available within a short distance including skiing, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, water skiing, fishing, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, and more, all within one of the most beautiful landscapes anywhere on the planet.

If you share our passion and have the talent and drive, you could be part of our team. We are currently seeking the best candidates to fill our open positions (right). Please see if any of them are right for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
