Design Choices

Here are some of the more interesting design choices:

I used the "Ray Bilinear Patch Intersections" from Ramsey et al.
I implemented a scratchpad, which has so far only given marginal improvements. I plan on further optimizing this...
I made the HeightField derived from Box so that I could easily do the check for whether a ray should even be traversed through the grid.

The final image

My creative image: Yosemite Natl Park. The mountains are a heightfield (of course), the sun is a disc (not a sphere!), and the ground is a box. I'll let you search for the hidden ring!

Performance.txt

Here is the file I used to generate my creative image of Yosemite. I have modified the mds header file so that it corresponds to the number of cells and not points (subtracted one from first two entries). This means you just load it in the exact same way as the sinc function.
