PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Work as an advocate for bicyclists and pedestrians while representing the interests and concerns of UDOT.
- Travel to statewide locations several times per years including overnight stays over several days.
- Inspect unimproved areas and constructions sites.
- Maintain an updated Pedestrian and Bicycle Element of the Statewide Long Range Plan.
- Assist UDOT Region offices in the transition of policies and procedures for greater awareness and care for pedestrian and bicycle needs in State projects.
- Serve as a standing member of the States Transportation Enhancements Advisory Committee for funding special projects, including evaluating and ranking project applications.
- Provide Staff support to the Enhancements Advisory Committee, including preparation and mailing of application materials, public notification, participation in informational workshops, and initial screening of applications.
- Assist in establishing design standards for bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
- Analyze draft legislation for bicycle and pedestrian interest.
- Review bicycle and pedestrian elements of project plans.
- Miscellaneous related tasks, including participating in public involvement efforts, networking with other states, acting as liaison to pedestrian and bicycling interest groups and trail planning groups, providing technical assistance to UDOT staff and local governments, working on traffic analyses, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of policies and programs regarding transportation planning within the state.
- Knowledge of transportation needs and requirements within the state.
- Knowledge of administration and funding of federal and state programs.
- Knowledge of public relations practices.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate statistical information.
- Ability to design, conduct, and report on studies regarding construction or modifications to transportation systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to supervise or direct others in the process of performing a study or administering a program.
Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelors degree with major study in planning, geography, economics, social or statistical research, plus six years of full-time paid professional employment in related fields, or substitutions on a year-for-year basis as follows: graduate study in related areas for one year of required employment, or full-time paid professional employment for the required education. Experience with pedestrian, ADA, and bicycling issues, including personal recreational or commuter cycling experience is preferred, but not required.
