Call for
Papers
and
Posters

Important Dates
  • Papers Due: September 2, 2011
  • Notification of Papers: September 16, 2011
  • Final Papers Due: September 30, 2011
  • Revised Paper for IJUQ Due: December 31, 2011

We invite authors to submit original, unpublished research and application papers. Paper submissions may be short or full length (using the IEEE Visualization Conference style) including figures, tables, and references. Full papers (8-10) pages are for more complete work, while short papers (4-6) pages are for in-progress or more preliminary in nature.

Poster submissions should include a 1 page poster and may be accompanied by up to 2 pages of explanatory text.

We are looking for contributions related to all aspects of working with uncertainty. Suggested topics are intentionally broad to solicit contributions from various communities and expertise. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Representation of uncertainty
  • Uncertainty quantification
  • How uncertainty is propagated
  • Reasoning about uncertainty
  • Uncertainty visualization
  • Perceptual and cognitive issues related to uncertainty
  • Risk communication
  • Decision making under uncertainty
  • Applications involving uncertainty

Submissions can be about:

  • Methods and techniques about how to handle uncertainty at different stages, or across multiple stages.
  • Description of systems that incorporate uncertainty.
  • Application problems and/or interesting research problems that require attention from the community.
  • Experiences with working with uncertainty, road blocks that one may encounter, lessons learned from different domains/problems.

The submissions must be original research. However, they may include work in progress and preliminary results. Submitted papers and posters will be evaluated by their relevance to the workshop focus, novelty and scientific merit.

Once a paper or poster has been accepted, at least one author is required to attend the workshop to present the paper or poster.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2011 IEEE Visualization Week to be held in Providence, Rhode Island. This workshop will be held on Monday, October 24 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:55 p.m.

Submission Instructions

Please note that after the workshop, if your paper is invited as a full length journal paper, it will need to adhere to the journal guidelines prior to journal publication.

If there are any questions, you can contact the workshop organizers via Uncertainty@soe.ucsc.edu

Special Issue Selections

Approximately 8 papers among the workshop submissions (from both short and full length submissions) will be invited to submit a full paper version to be reviewed and published as a special issue in the International Journal for Uncertainty Quantification. Full length papers are usually around 20 single column pages (roughly equivalent to 8-10 pages using IEEE TVCG format). Non-print materials such as animations, additional images, interactive demos, etc. are also welcome and can be included as part of the non-print publication.
