Rob MacLeod, PhD and Jeff Weiss, PhD Presents:

Grant Writing Tips and Strategies

October 26, 2017 at 12:00pm for 1hr
Evans Conference Room, WEB 3780
Warnock Engineering Building, 3rd floor.

Abstract:

This presentation will cover the basics and best practices of grants. Learn how to search for funding opportunities, review funding announcements and respond successfully to funding requests.

Grant writing is both an art and science. Drs. MacLeod and Weiss will share the knowledge they have gained from writing proposals and working with funding sources throughout their careers.

Starting with learning how to search different funding sources and keeping appraised on areas of interest currently in vogue with funders, you will gain an understanding of the different funding mechanisms available for your area of research.

Responding to a funding request requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage many moving parts, from your research team to your anticipated collaborators. Strategies for doing this well will be shared.

Even before your grant is funded, developing a rapport with your program officer or other funding agency staff plays a crucial role in keeping the lines of communication open. Learn why this is important, what kind of questions should be asked of program staff, how often they should be contacted, and what kind of information they find valuable during and after you have been funded.

Finally, advice will be offered on where to get more training and resources both on campus and in webinars to help you find funding in the future.
