Adaptive Mesh Generation

Example of an adapted multigrid mesh.

The solution of elastohydrodynamic lubrication problems is both computationally intensive and industrially relevant. Although the use of fast multilevel techniques makes it possible to solve standard EHL problems quickly, there is a need to use much finer meshes to resolve features such as surface roughness. In this paper we investigate the use of adaptive meshing in order to focus computational work only on those parts of the solution domain where high resolution of grid points is necessary. The results show that mesh adaptation reduces the computational cost while maintaining the quality of the solution.
