Job Summary:

The Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute is a world-class research institute at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. We are a highly dynamic and motivated group of over 115 faculty, staff, and students. The overarching goal of the Institute's research is to create new techniques, tools, and systems to provide science-based solutions to problems affecting various aspects of human life. We believe that developing state-of-the-art computational solutions for such complex systems requires research in a number of areas within scientific computing including visualization, simulation, and modeling. The core strengths of the Institute include scientific visualization, biomedical imaging, problem solving environment (PSE) development, and general computational methods and techniques.

The focus of this position wlll be software development within a variety of areas including Visualization, Graphics, Scientific Computing, lmaging Processing, and Computer Modeling and Simulation for the Scientific Computing and lmaging institute at the University of Utah.

Salary Range: $48,000 - $77,000

Responsibilities

A particular focus of this position will involve working with Institute software projects that are distributed to Institute collaborations and other users. This position will interact with personnel ranging from senior researchers (Ph.D. level) to students.

The responsibilities breakdown are:

  • 85% Developing, testing assorted institute code bases for internal purposes, open source release, and commercial development
  • 5% Managing code bases including management of repositories/servers
  • 10% user interaction and group meetings.

Qualifications

The SCI Institute is looking for an individual who is available for a full-time commitment and has either completed a CS or CE bachelor's degree or related field with computational experience. Highly developed C++ programming skills are essential for this position. Additionally, the applicant must be familiar with one or more versions of Unix (lRlX, Linux, Mac OSX, etc). Experience with Makefile systems, gcc, configure, cvs, openGL, and other unix tools is also important. Being self-motivated and having good organizational and communication skills is essential.
