Parametric Study of Contained Explosive Detonation
Steel cylindrical container filled with PBX-9501 is subjected to an external heat flux from a fire. Heat is transferred through the outer wall of the container until a critical reaction temperature is reached at the steel-PBX interface. The PBX explosive rapidly decomposes from a solid->gas, pressurizing the container causing it to deform and eventually rupture. The simulation was performed on the Redstorm & Atlas servers, using 512->3072 processors. Run time was approximately 180,000 CPU hours.
